1) What is the lifespan of smart glass films?

The switchable film is designed to last for over 18 million on/off cycles, which translates to approximately 10 years of use, with an average of 5-6 times per day. With proper care and maintenance, the film can last even longer.

2) What level of sound absorption do switchable smart glass films offer?

Prämie switchable smart glass films have a sound transmission class (STC) rating of 38, providing excellent sound insulation.

This makes them suitable for noise-sensitive environments, such as offices or healthcare facilities.

3) What is the thickness of the soldering point?

The soldering point of Prämie switchable smart glass films has a thickness of 0.15mm to 0.3mm, depending on the size and design of the glass panel.

This ensures a strong and durable connection between the film and the transformer, ensuring long-lasting functionality.

4) Are switchable films energy-efficient?

Yes, switchable smart glass films are energy-efficient. When the film is opaque, it blocks out sunlight and reduces heat gain by up to 40%.

This helps reduce energy consumption for air conditioning and maintains a comfortable temperature inside buildings.

5) How long does it take for the tint level to change?

The tint level of Prämie switchable smart glass films can change within milliseconds, providing instant privacy or visibility as needed.

This makes it a convenient and efficient solution for controlling light and privacy in various settings.

6) Can switchable films be used for projection displays?

Yes, Prämie switchable smart glass films can be used for projection displays. The clear state of the film allows for high-quality projections, making it a popular choice for conference rooms, home theatres, and retail displays.

7) What is the width of the copper strip, including the connection technology?

The width of the copper strip used in Prämie switchable smart glass films ranges from 5mm to 8mm, depending on the size and design of the film. It is connected using advanced technology that ensures a strong and secure connection for long-term use.

8) What is the weight of switchable smart glass film?

The weight of Prämie switchable smart glass films ranges from 0.5 kg to 1.2 kg per square meter, depending on the size and thickness of the film. This makes it a lightweight and versatile option for various applications.

1) What colours are the cover strips?

The grey cover strip features the RAL shade 7030, known as stone grey.

2) What type of silicone is best for installation?

For Prämie switchable smart glass film installation, we recommend using a neutral cure silicone adhesive with a high tensile strength and low modulus of elasticity. This type of silicone will provide a strong bond without causing any damage to the film or glass surface.

3) How are cable transitions connected?

We suggest implementing cable or line transitions. Please ensure you discuss the specifics with the electrician performing the work.

4) Is window adhesive suitable for bonding Prämie®?

No, window adhesive should never come into contact with the Prämie®. When the windshield is installed, the adhesive bonds firmly to the frame. This causes the film to stretch, preventing it from functioning properly.

1) How can switchable smart glass film be utilized as a projection surface?

It is a rear projection setup, meaning the image resolution is blurred on the side opposite the film and sharp on the film-facing side. Consequently, the projector needs to be placed behind the surface for optimal presentations.

2) What occurs if the film is not activated every 72 hours?

It’s not problematic if the film remains off for 3-4 days, but this shouldn’t become a habit. Prolonged inactivity can slow down the film’s switching process.

Consider an automatic switch to address this issue—consult your electrician for advice.

3) What occurs if the operating temperatures are either exceeded or not met?

  1. When the temperature drops below this threshold, the circuit experiences a slowdown.
  2. If the temperature is exceeded, the Prämie® becomes transparent and does not become milky again.

4) What is the temperature range for using switchable film?

The recommended operating temperature range for Prämie switchable smart glass film is between -20°C and 70°C. The values for our other switchable films in the Prämie® range can be found in the technical details tab or in the download area in the technical data sheet.

5) What do black dots in the switchable smart glass film mean?

Black dots in switchable smart glass film indicate “broken” areas, caused by excessive operating voltage or defects in the base material. These films/glasses should not be used. (Disconnect power!) and must be replaced!

1) What is the process for installing smart glass films?

The installation process of Prämie switchable smart glass films is similar to traditional window films. It requires a clean, smooth surface for proper adhesion.

Our team of experienced professionals can guide you through the entire installation process, or you can choose to have it installed by our authorised dealers.

2) Where are the cables for smart glass films connected?

The cables connecting the smart glass films are connected to the transformer, which can be easily hidden within walls or furniture. This helps maintain a clean and seamless aesthetic.

3) Can switchable films be installed on curved surfaces?

Yes, Prämie switchable smart glass films can be installed on curved surfaces. Our team of experts will ensure a perfect fit by carefully measuring and cutting the film to match the curves.

4) What is the maintenance process for switchable smart glass films?

Maintaining Prämie switchable smart glass films is easy and hassle-free.

Simply use a soft, non-abrasive cloth and mild cleaning solution to wipe the film surface. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials, as they may damage the film.

5) Can switchable films be removed once installed?

Yes, switchable films can be easily removed if necessary. However, we recommend seeking professional assistance to ensure proper removal without damaging the film or the glass surface.

8) Can switchable films be used in wet or humid environments?

Yes, Prämie switchable smart glass films are suitable for use in wet or humid environments, such as bathrooms or saunas.

The film is resistant to moisture and can be easily cleaned without damaging the functionality of the switchable feature.

9) Is it possible to install switchable films on existing glass?

Yes, Prämie switchable smart glass films can be installed on existing glass without replacing the entire window.

This makes it a cost-effective and convenient option for upgrading privacy features in homes or offices.

1) Installation on a glass partition wall (all-glass)

Preparation: Begin by spraying silicone on the expansion joint, then carefully cut it open slightly and clean it thoroughly. Once installed, precisely apply silicone to the edges and the groove for a polished finish.

2) Installation on an all-glass door

  1. Chamfered edge: maintain a 1 mm setback.
  2. Solder the connection point either at the top or on the hinge side.
  3. Apply solder resist to the contacts
  4. Cover the connections with insulating tape to prevent conductivity.
  5. A U-profile covers the soldering point, with the cables directed towards the hinge side, allowing for a smooth cable transition.

3) Which silicone is suitable for installation?

For Prämie switchable smart glass film installation, we recommend using a neutral cure silicone adhesive with a high tensile strength and low modulus of elasticity. This type of silicone will provide a strong bond without causing any damage to the film or glass surface.

4) Is installation on sliding doors possible?

Installing Prämie® on sliding doors is technically possible. However, it is crucial to address the following beforehand: How will electricity be supplied to the sliding door?

This requires coordination with both the window installer and the electrician. Cables can be routed using a cable carrier system, but remember that they will hang visibly alongside the sliding door, much like a monkey swing.

5) Can switchable smart glass film be utilised in bathhouses?

Yes, it’s possible. The film needs to be carefully sealed with silicone to ensure the edges are flawlessly sealed, preventing any moisture penetration.

Only switchable glass guarantees absolute protection against such issues.

6) Is it possible to apply switchable smart glass film to fire-resistant glazing?

Applying the film does not alter the fire protection properties of fire doors. It should always be installed on the side facing away from the fire.

7) Is it possible to mount smart glass film on polycarbonate panes?

No, the material is too unstable to serve as a substrate, and the bending—both concave and convex—leads to detachment.

8) Can smart glass films be used in the sauna?

No, our smart glass films are not suitable for saunas, as high heat and humidity can cause damage to the film. It is important to ensure that the environment is suitable for switchable smart glass films before installation.

1) Is the transformer suitable for use abroad in regions with different voltage levels, such as the USA where outlets supply only 110V?

48V-60V voltage transformers must be used. The transformer must also supply the required amperage.

2) How long is the cable to the transformer?

The cable included with the transformer is approximately 1.5 meters long. If a longer cable is needed, it can be extended using compatible extension cables or by consulting an electrician for proper installation methods.

3) What type of cable connects the transformer to the wall switch (for 12m² and 24m² transformers)?

The transformer for 12m² and 24m² Prämie switchable smart glass films is connected to the wall switch using a low voltage, two-core cable with a cross-section of at least 1.5mm². This type of cable is commonly used for low voltage lighting systems.

4) What is the protection class of the transformers?

The transformers included with Prämie switchable smart glass films have a protection class of IP 67, making them suitable for outdoor and indoor use. This also ensures the transformer is sealed against moisture and dust, providing longevity and safety for the film’s electrical components.

5) Are the transformers suitable for furniture installation?

No, they lack the necessary overheating protection for furniture installation. Transformers placed in furniture must automatically shut off at a specific temperature.

6) Can an external timer be used between the socket/distributor and the transformer?

Yes, this is feasible. Using an external timer does not adversely affect the transformer’s lifespan.

Great option for my small office space. Found this brand and was skeptical as first as they seemed like a new product that just came in Singapore, but had no regrets at all. Pricing is competitive as well.
